Klippers lose Dommett in a gong show up north

I just got back to Kindersley and I have to go to bed, but the Klippers lost Andrew Dommett indefinitely in tonight's 9-6 loss in La Ronge. He took a brutal hit to the head from Justin Ducharme in front of the Ice Wolves net late in the first period. He has a broken jaw and maybe more, I'm not sure, but he'll be out for a while.

After the hit, Johnny Calkins jumped Ducharme sticking up for his friend and linemate and things became pretty much an all-out brawl. At the same time, David Haaf started a fight with Doug Lindensmith in front of the La Ronge bench. As they moved closer to the bench, at least half a dozen players started punching Haaf. That's real class right there.

Out of all this, La Ronge gets a seven-minute major power play, most of it a 5-on-3. They scored four goals over the next five minutes (Klips had been leading 2-0).

Want to guess who reffed this game?

Kyle Paulsen.

Makes you wonder if Larry ever stole his lunch money.

  1. So will the league review this? Or is it just our loss?

  2. I appreciate the fact you are passionate about the team you cover and everything but as a newspaper reporter I would expect a much more professional approach to your writing. I admit I was not at the game and do not cheer for either team involved. That being said, the criticizing the officials and accusing another team of no class just makes you look like an idiot.
I would be very interested to see how you would report the story if lets say it was Doug Lindensmith that had broken his jaw.
Any one from Kindersley that accuses a Larry Wintoneak coached team of having no class is quite hilarious. Wintoneak is the poster boy for no class.

  3. Anonymous: thanks for the comment. A few notes:

    1) This is a blog for fans. By its nature you'll find the tone of writing on here is different than what you see in the newspaper.

    2) I spoke to La Ronge fans who also said the officiating was atrocious. The fact of the matter is that Paulsen lost control of the game early and it's not the first time this has happened with him. As for the 'no class' comment - it wasn't directed at the whole team, just the guys swinging from the bench. Are you saying that should be kosher?

    3) An illegal head shot is an illegal head shot. It's a sickening thing to watch no matter who the player is, but especially when it happens to players with so much talent like a Dommett or a Lindensmith.

  4. First comment: I think they're in the process of getting the tape right now. Larry was going back and forth with Tracy Cook (director of officials) via text on the bus ride home.

The new Junior A Supplement has a minimum 2-game suspension for a hit to the head resulting in a major penalty. There are stiffer suspensions for a blindside or "dangerous" hit and I think you can say this one falls into that category.

  5. I personally agree with Josh - if you watched the webcam last night Laronge showed absolutely no class. It was an absolute discrace to watch. They should be ashamed and Ducharme should be suspended indefinitely.

  6. Who showed no class? You say Laronge. And where in the game do yo mean this?

Was it a disgrace watching Haaf jumping Doug Lindensmith and stroking him when he still had his stick in his hands and his gloves on? Was it a disgrace with the later cheap shots by the Klippers? Or you think no class is players from the bench grabbing Haaf as he is punching Lindensmith? Anyone would do the same. As you say, you have to stick up for a teammate of course. All the kid (Ducharme) did was lay a monster hit on a kid cutting into the middle like the Klippers did all night. Although I never would want to see a kid get hurt, especially like that.
